Abstract

The events following the Iranian elections of summer of 2009 demonstrated the rapidly increasing schism of the Iranian political elite. Its foundations were laid in previous years, primarily after the start of the so-called reformist movement in the second half of the 1990s. The purpose of this study is to examine the development of the main groups of the Iranian political elite. Within the framework of this purpose, the following task was determined: to study the conditions for the formation of the main trends in the Iranian political elite. The data given in the book of the modern Iranian researcher Asef Boyat allow us to compose a portrait of the modern Iranian political elite, to establish the general patterns of development of the political class that forms the foreign and domestic policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
