Abstract

The aim of the study was the consistent identification of elitological constructs. The scientific novelty lies in the proof of the presence in the cycle of an important, previously unnoticed element that holds the parts together – the motivic complex "elitism". It is determined that the writer had a predisposition to evaluate things in a hierarchical coordinate system. It is concluded that in "Mirgorod" N.V. Gogol's ideas about the advantages of birth, which is ordained by God, are clearly manifested. The following become especially important here: 1) social status: the "pedigree" of the aristocracy is represented by the writer at different levels: in portraits, demeanor, moral guidelines, specific actions; 2) nation: the author quite clearly shows his likes and dislikes, he is convinced of the fatal impact of basic ethnic characteristics on the characters of representatives of specific communities; 3) age: here N.V. Gogol's conclusions extend not only to the advantages of time-taught people in societies, but also to the global assessment of the Russian state and its generations in historical perspective. The sequence of stories in the cycle is arranged accordingly: "Old World Landowners" – ideal timeless, but blood advantages. "Taras Bulba" – an illustrative example of the glorification of a worthy distant past – with a distinct structuring of society. "Viy" – the same option, but in an almost peaceful situation. "The Tale of How Ivan Ivanovich Quarreled with Ivan Nikiforovich" – statement of the devaluation of all designated values: a high status, a nation that the writer loves, a respectable age.
